Event and Website Terms

Last updated: August 2, 2026

These Terms apply to the Unfair Weekend website, application, community, programme, venue activities, submissions, judging, prizes, and related services. By submitting an application, accepting a place, or attending, you agree to these Terms and the Code of Conduct. If you do not agree, do not register or attend.

1) Organisers and eligibility

"Organisers", "we", "us", and "our" mean the Unfair Weekend event hosts identified on the relevant Luma page and any legal organising entity identified in the registration notice or participation confirmation.

You must meet the published eligibility rules and provide accurate information. Applying does not guarantee selection. We may accept, waitlist, reject, or revoke participation where reasonably necessary, including for capacity, safety, inaccurate information, rule violations, or failure to confirm attendance. Applicants below the legal age of adulthood may attend only with organiser approval and any parent or guardian permission we require.

2) Your responsibilities

  • follow the Code of Conduct, venue rules, safety instructions, laws, and reasonable organiser directions;
  • behave responsibly and avoid conduct that may harm people, property, systems, or the event;
  • protect your devices, accounts, credentials, belongings, work, and confidential information;
  • arrange and pay for your own travel, accommodation, insurance, visas, and personal expenses unless we expressly confirm otherwise in writing;
  • assess whether you are physically and medically able to participate, take breaks, and seek professional help when needed; and
  • promptly report safety concerns, harassment, hazards, loss, or incidents to an organiser or venue representative.

Overnight access, if offered, does not mean that continuous work or sleep deprivation is required or recommended. You remain responsible for your wellbeing and decisions about rest.

3) Attendance, changes, and cancellation

Unfair Weekend is primarily an in-person event. We may change dates, times, venue areas, speakers, mentors, partners, tools, prizes, schedule, selection criteria, team rules, or format for operational, safety, legal, or circumstances beyond our reasonable control. We may postpone, shorten, move, or cancel the event. We will try to give reasonable notice, but you are responsible for refundable travel and accommodation arrangements. Unless we expressly agree otherwise, we do not reimburse third-party costs.

4) Discord and communications

Discord is the main participant community and participant-to-participant communication channel. Important operational messages may also be sent through Luma or email. You are responsible for monitoring the announced channels and maintaining access to the contact details and accounts you provide.

Other participants control what they post. Do not treat Discord as confidential, do not post sensitive personal information or third-party secrets, and verify important advice independently. We may moderate event spaces, remove content, restrict access, or preserve incident evidence, but we do not promise to monitor every message or prevent every harmful interaction.

5) Projects, submissions, intellectual property, and confidentiality

Eligible participants must submit their final project through Devpost by the announced deadline and follow the published submission requirements. A Discord post, live demo, repository link, or message to an organiser does not replace the required Devpost submission unless we expressly confirm an alternative in writing. Your use of Devpost is also subject to Devpost's terms and privacy policy.

  • You retain ownership of work you create, subject to rights in tools, datasets, code, models, content, or other materials belonging to others.
  • You are responsible for ensuring that your project, inputs, outputs, demo, name, and materials are lawful and do not infringe privacy, confidentiality, intellectual-property, publicity, or other rights.
  • Do not submit trade secrets or confidential information. Hackathon discussions, judging, demos, and Discord posts are not confidential unless a separate written agreement says otherwise.
  • You grant the organisers a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to view, reproduce, display, record, and share your submitted project materials as reasonably needed to administer, judge, document, report on, and promote the event. This licence does not transfer ownership of your project.
  • You must disclose material pre-existing work and follow published rules on team size, build period, third-party assets, AI tools, open-source licences, and attribution.

6) Third-party tools and partner benefits

Registration, communication, submissions, analytics, hosting, AI tools, credits, and prize redemption may be provided by third parties such as Luma, Discord, Devpost, ElevenLabs, and other announced partners. Their own terms, eligibility rules, privacy policies, availability, regional restrictions, age limits, account requirements, payment-card requirements, and acceptable-use rules may apply.

We do not control third-party services and do not guarantee that credits, platforms, integrations, or partner services will be uninterrupted, suitable, secure, or available to every person or region. You decide whether to create or use a third-party account and are responsible for complying with its rules. A separate choice may be offered where a partner benefit requires us to transfer your data.

7) Judging and prizes

  • Judging involves subjective evaluation. Decisions are final except where we identify a clear error, conflict, ineligibility, or rule violation.
  • Published prizes and benefits may be subject to verification, team-size limits, partner conditions, deadlines, account requirements, and local law.
  • Cash team prizes: unless the published prize rules say otherwise, a cash prize awarded to a team will be divided equally among the eligible registered team members listed in the final Devpost submission.
  • Alternative cash payment: before payout, all eligible team members may unanimously instruct us in writing to use different proportions or pay the full prize to one team member or an eligible legal entity connected to the team. We may require identity, authority, banking, tax, invoice, and other compliance documents, and we may reject or request changes to an arrangement we cannot lawfully or reasonably administer. Payment according to the team's confirmed instruction satisfies our payout obligation; the team is responsible for any later internal distribution.
  • Fixed-quantity non-cash prizes: unless a prize is expressly described as being for every team member, the published quantity is the total allocation for the team. A larger team does not increase that quantity. If there are fewer items, licences, codes, memberships, or other benefits than eligible members, the team must unanimously identify the recipients by our deadline. We do not owe extra units, substitutions, or a cash equivalent unless we expressly offer them.
  • Winners must provide accurate identity, contact, tax, banking, team, and project information reasonably required for fulfilment.
  • You are responsible for taxes, declarations, and professional advice relating to a prize unless applicable law or written prize terms state otherwise.
  • If you accept a partner-provided prize, necessary winner and project details may be shared with the identified provider. You may decline the prize instead.
  • We may withhold, substitute, reallocate, or recover a prize where a participant is ineligible, violates the rules, provided false information, cannot lawfully receive it, or does not complete reasonable fulfilment steps by the deadline.

8) Photos, video, and publicity

The event may be photographed, filmed, recorded, and livestreamed. General event and crowd footage may include attendees and may be used to document, report on, and promote Unfair Weekend. Tell an organiser or photographer if you do not want identifiable close-up coverage; we will use reasonable measures to respect that preference. Focused interviews, testimonials, and featured commercial uses may require a separate release. See the Privacy Policy for more detail.

9) Safety, property, and emergencies

Participation may involve ordinary risks of travel, crowds, extended computer use, equipment, food, venue access, and interaction with other people. Follow safety instructions and use equipment only as authorised. You are responsible for your belongings and for damage you intentionally or negligently cause. In an emergency, we may contact emergency services and take reasonable protective action, but we do not provide medical, legal, financial, cybersecurity, or other professional advice.

10) Disclaimer

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the website, event, information, mentoring, tools, credits, and facilities are provided on an "as available" basis. We do not promise any particular outcome, startup success, investment, employment, technical result, prize, partner relationship, or error-free service. Advice and feedback reflect the speaker's own views and should be independently evaluated before you rely on them.

11) Limits of responsibility

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the organisers are not responsible for indirect or consequential loss, lost profits or opportunities, loss of data, damage caused by third-party services or other participants, theft or loss of unattended property, or travel and accommodation costs arising from event changes.

You remain responsible for claims, loss, or damage caused by your unlawful conduct, breach of these Terms, infringement of another person's rights, or unsafe or unauthorised use of property, systems, or content.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including liability for fraud, wilful misconduct, or death or personal injury caused by negligence where applicable. Nothing removes mandatory consumer or data-protection rights.

12) Removal and disqualification

We may warn, remove, disqualify, or restrict any person where we reasonably believe it is necessary for safety, legal compliance, event integrity, venue requirements, or enforcement of these Terms or the Code of Conduct. Serious matters may be reported to the venue, a participant's institution, platform providers, or public authorities where lawful and appropriate.

13) Privacy

Our handling of personal data is explained in the Privacy Policy. Agreement to these Terms is not consent to optional marketing or optional partner data sharing; those choices are requested separately where needed.

14) Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by Lithuanian law. Lithuanian courts have jurisdiction, but this does not deprive an EU/EEA consumer of mandatory protections or any right to bring proceedings in another court that applicable law grants. Contact us first at hello@unfairweekend.com so we can try to resolve the issue informally.

15) Changes and severability

We may update these Terms for future registrations or where event details, law, or services change. Material changes affecting confirmed participants will be communicated where reasonably practicable. If any term is unenforceable, the remaining terms continue to apply to the extent permitted by law.
